And it has caused a lot of unnecessary guilt in a lot of older adults who felt ashamed every time they dozed off in their chair after lunch.
But here’s where I need you to pay attention, because this is the part most people miss. The second camp says the opposite. Any nap is a good nap. Rest when you’re tired.
Your body knows what it needs. More rest is always better at our age. This is the belief that is causing real problems. And it is far more dangerous than the first myth, because it sounds reasonable.
It sounds caring. It sounds like good advice. It isn’t. Because a nap is not simply a little sleep.
A nap is a biological event with internal structure. It has stages. It has phases. These disruptions fragment your nap,and many people simply wonder why they still feel tired after sleeping for30 minutes.
