Dalila Guerra’s Passing Leaves the Community in Mourning
Luís Montenegro, leader of the PSD, was taken by surprise by the sad news of Dalila Guerra’s passing, a prominent figure in local politics in Barrancos. Dalila, 52, a native of this Alentejo village, was a respected and admired woman, not only for her training in Civil Engineering but also for her unwavering commitment to public service and the development of her community.
A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) since 2015, Dalila Guerra was serving as a councilor without portfolio in the Barrancos Municipal Chamber at the time of her passing, being part of the coalition “Tempos de Mudança” (PSD/CDS-PP). Her dedication to the municipality was widely recognized, marked by contagious enthusiasm and tireless commitment, even in the face of the adversities imposed by a prolonged illness that she faced with remarkable discretion and courage.
The Barrancos Municipal Chamber issued a public note of condolence, praising Dalila’s legacy: “Her enthusiasm and dedication to public service were indelible marks of her journey. Barrancos lost today one of its most courageous, determined women, deeply connected to our traditions.” The note reflects the profound impact the local politician had on the village, both professionally and personally.
Dalila Guerra passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, after a long battle with illness, which she faced with dignity and resilience. Despite the limitations imposed by her health condition, she never neglected her duties to the municipality, demonstrating admirable strength of character. Her trajectory in local politics included active participation in the 2021 Municipal Elections, where she stood out for her commitment, and also served as a district representative in Luís Montenegro’s candidacy for the leadership of the PSD in 2022, reinforcing her influence at the regional party level.
Dalila’s connection to the Barrancos municipality began long before her entry into politics. Since 1993, she served as a senior technician in the Municipal Chamber, where she applied her civil engineering knowledge for the development of the village. Over more than three decades, her work left an indelible mark on the community, being remembered as a competent professional and a citizen deeply committed to the traditions and well-being of Barrancos.
The PSD also commented on the loss, expressing deep sorrow for the departure of such a dedicated member. On social media, tributes have multiplied, with many highlighting Dalila’s courage, determination, and love for her land. “Barrancos lost one of its greatest defenders, a woman who lived and breathed our traditions and dedicated her life to serving the community,” reads a widely shared post.
Dalila Guerra leaves an irreparable void in the Barrancos community, but her legacy of dedication, professionalism, and love for her land will remain an inspiration for all who knew her. Her passing is felt not only by party colleagues and municipality members but by all who had the privilege of sharing moments of work, friendship, and commitment to a better future for Barrancos.
